Description
A marriage is a contract between a couple and is binding on the parties the same way as any other contract is. A marriage certificate issued in by a government registry is binding the couple to the Marriage laws of that land, whereas a marriage certificate issued in any other place (church, etc) is legally binding but ‘not recognised’ (means not seen on government registries) by a foreign government, but is acknowledged to exist whenever necessary, and would be classified by the foreign government as a de-facto marriage contract.
A marriage ‘ceremony’ of some kind should take place to create a marriage certificate, there must be 2 or more witnesses to the act of declaration and all must sign the application/certificate for formal registration and certification. A ceremony can be as formal or informal as the applicants choose.
A Yahsus Minister can perform as a marriage celebrant, or the ceremony make take place privately and then recorded in our registries. Ministers are also available for online conference ceremonies if needed. If you wish to have a Yahsus Minister perform the ceremony, please contact the minister to arrange for their additional fees to be paid directly (consider time and travel).
Couples are encouraged to seriously consider writing a pre-nuptual agreement. A pre-nup can be simple or complex and should cover certain topics. Read more here.
